Why is the Times gunning for Rocky?

The LA Times’ war against City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo continues this morning with another front-page assault:  this one accuses him of using office staff to babysit and run personal errands.  Is the Times planning to conduct the same investigation about every officeholder in LA City Hall?  If not, isn’t this selective prosecution?

The city attorney is not our favorite public figure.  His 2001 victory over Mike Feuer was fueled by favors from the billboard industry.  His 2006 campaign for attorney general did not come off very well.  But seeing the guy triple-teamed by the Times (on just one recent day, there was a front-page attack article, an attack editorial, and an attack column by Steve Lopez) makes us feel a bit sorry for him.
